Fish Tales

April 12, 2017 Kayak Fishing Trip

I decided it was time to get out and hunt for the Spring crappie bite. Lanier Crappie report said most had spawned from shallow bank and would be moving to shallow docks…Glad I followed Dan’s advice.
I launched this morning at Big Creek ramp and headed to shallow areas. I stopped at a couple of blow downs and only picked up one crappie on each. I paddled on down to a double boat dock and didn’t have to move from there. The dock was in 9 – 10 feet of water and was the honey hole of the day. There was a small center console and a pontoon parked in the slips. I love shooting under pontoons and started there first. I picked up two 10 -11 inch crappie on the first 3 or 4 cast…then nothing. I then moved to the other slip and found 25 more hungry fish. This was the most I have ever found/caught on 1 dock. I started out with a 1/32 jig, Bobby Garland shad and niblet, but soon was just shooting lures only. I switched to the electric chicken pattern and that was a winner as well. No Biguns today…All the fish were around 10″ but big enough to give a good tug on the B&M shooting sticks.

Get out there and don’t miss out on a Crappie Day!
